What Sharp Sight Labs is all about
The explosion of big data is creating massive opportunities.
At present, companies are already sitting on mountains of data, waiting to be mined for golden insight. There’s more data than they can analyze.
And with wearable computing becoming reality (e.g. the Apple Watch), the emergent Internet of Things, and billions of new people connecting to the internet from emerging markets, we’ll be hit with an ongoing, exponential explosion of data.
Big data isn’t hype. It’s reality.
At the same time, there’s not enough skilled data scientists.
MIT professors Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee note that “people with [data science] skills are hard to find and in great demand.”
Moreover, McKinsey and Company recently forecasted a shortage of 1.6 million data scientists and data-savvy managers by 2018. That’s million. With an M.
Just do the math.
We’re already producing more data than we can analyze.
There’s already a talent war for skilled data scientists in Silicon Valley, Seattle, NYC and other great cities.
And we’re on the verge of new torrents of data.
With the massive supply of data, and too few people to analyze it, rare data scientists are extremely valuable.
In coming years, individuals who can transform data into insight will be able to create massive wealth for themselves, their institutions, and the world.
We want you to become one of those individuals. We want to help you seize these new opportunities, by helping you master data science.
Why we founded Sharp Sight Labs
But, learning data science is so. damn. hard.
Our founder most recently worked at Apple as a data scientist, and prior to that, consulted for numerous Fortune 500 companies.
Even with years of experience in the data science world, we wasted years learning useless skills and irrelevant programming languages.
To be clear: much of what’s being taught isn’t valuable. It’s academic. Or what’s being taught is just rehashed software development in new statistical programming languages, causing students to spend months learning data types, ‘for loops’ and functions, instead of the real techniques that analysts use to get insight from data.
You could spend years learning the wrong things. And even if you figure out the right things to learn, you might learn them in the wrong order; an order that will make it vastly more difficult.
We started Sharp Sight Labs to teach you exactly what you need to know.
- Wouldn’t it be great to learn the highest value techniques?
- Wouldn’t it be great if you had someone to tell you which tools to use, and also which tools not to use.
- Wouldn’t it be great to know which techniques to learn, and what order to learn them
- Wouldn’t it be great to save yourself years of time?
